eBooks now available from Evelyn Piper

We’ve just added eight new eBooks from one of the forerunners of domestic suspense, Evelyn Piper!

Piper, a pseudonym of Manhattanite Meriam Modell, solidified her position in literary (and cinematic) history with the now-classic adaptations of Bunny Lake is Missing (directed by Otto Preminger) and The Nanny (which starred Bette Davis)--but her accomplishments went well beyond these two titles.

The Innocent, her 1949 debut, was nominated for the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. She wrote eleven full-length novels and numerous short stories, published in the New Yorker; most of her work was concerned with domestic conflicts, but, like the writing of Dorothy B. Hughes or Charlotte Armstrong, it brims with intrigue, suspense, and, at times, shocking violence.

The New York Times called Piper a master of “realistic domestic terror.” Check out her author page to familiarize yourself with this excellent early female crime writer.
