Welcome to MysteriousPress.com

The Mysterious Press broke new ground in publishing when I founded it in 1975, putting out books using fine paper and top dust jacket artists, and offering many limited, signed editions. Devoted entirely to mystery, crime, and suspense fiction, it went on to publish such best-selling authors as James Ellroy, P.D. James, Donald E. Westlake, Eric Ambler, Ross Macdonald, Isaac Asimov, Ed McBain, Kingsley Amis and Elmore Leonard, both in hardcover and paperback.

In its new version, it will be devoted entirely to electronic publishing, under the domain name MysteriousPress.com.

This 21st-century publishing house will offer books that, mainly, are out of print but protected by copyright. Currently, we’re in the process of digitizing books by some of the most distinguished and best-selling crime writers in the world. In the not-too-distant future, we plan to publish original novels by previously published authors as well as by talented newcomers.

All our books will be distributed and marketed by Open Road Integrated Media. Under the leadership of its CEO, Jane Friedman, Open Road has done an amazing job of making the MysteriousPress.com imprint a reality, so that new audiences can rediscover these wonderful stories.

We’ve got a distinguished roster of authors already for sale. On this site you can find books by James Ellroy, Adam Hall, Thomas H. Cook, Ross Thomas, Ken Bruen and Mark McShane.

Before the end of the year, we’ll be releasing backlist books by James Grady, Ellery Queen, Donald E. Westlake, Christianna Brand, Edward Bunker, George Harmon Coxe, Stuart M. Kaminsky, Jack O’Connell, T.J. English, Andrew Klavan, David Stout, Joseph Wambaugh, Wendy Hornsby, Gary Phillips, John Harvey, and Charles McCarry. We’ll also be publishing original fiction by Grady, McCarry, and others.

And this is just the beginning. I’m actively pursuing authors and expect that, in the near future, MysteriousPress.com will offer hundreds of books, in every subgenre of mystery fiction—from hardboiled to pulp, espionage to true crime, traditional to noir.

More than that, this website will serve as a resource for news in the mystery genre, and offer exclusive content from renowned authors.

Thank you for visiting. Make sure to follow us on Twitter and become our fan on Facebook, so you can stay up-to-date on everything MysteriousPress.com has to offer.

Otto Penzler
