James Grady's novella THIS GIVEN SKY featured in the classroom

About 40 students in sophomore English 2 at Shelby High School sat rapt in the SHS auditorium Tuesday afternoon, discussing literature with an author who was in Washington, D.C.
The author is James Grady, who wrote “Six Days of the Condor,” which was made into a film starring Robert Redford. Since then, Grady has published more short stories and books and worked in journalism.
He is also a 1967 SHS graduate.
The students and Grady discussed his novella, “This Given Sky,” set in Shelby over a period of four decades beginning in 1975.
Grady works with PEN/Faulkner’s Writers in Schools program, which brings free copies of literary works to students in Washington, D.C., schools, along with the authors of those works to discuss them with high school students.
