New eBooks by Melville Davisson Post!
We’re continuing to expand our line of newly restored MysteriousPress.com-approved classics, professionally
proofread and formatted to ensure accuracy and readability on any device. Up next: three eBooks by Melville Davisson Post, West Virginia’s first master of detective fiction! We’ve got a collection of tales featuring the inimitable Uncle Abner, and two more collections spotlighting crooked lawyer Randolph Mason.
Uncle Abner is a faithful sleuth who lets the Bible guide his keen eye. As he roams the Appalachian countryside representing the law—on the ground and from up high—he encounters moonshiners, killers and thieves, and matches their vagrancy with his feverous religious zeal. And by examining the world as closely as he examines his suspects, Abner solves even the unlikeliest of scenarios. Our collection pulls together eighteen of the detective’s mountain whodunits.
Post’s Randolph Mason offers an amoral counter to Abner’s abundance of faith. Mason is America’s smartest—and most unscrupulous—lawyer, who never lets his clients’ guilt get in the way of his skilled defense. In stories that helped to establish the legal thriller genre, the lawyer represents wife murderers, bank robbers, and other unsavory characters, using the laws he knows by heart to help the criminals escape justice. We're offering two volumes of these exciting and innovative stories: The Strange Schemes of Randolph Mason and The Man of Last Resort.
Melville Davisson Post (1869-1930) was born in Harrison County, West Virginia and spent much of his life in Clarksburg. He earned a degree in Law, was an avid horseman, and produced hundreds of works of short fiction. He is best remembered for his Uncle Abner mysteries, which continue to be recognized as some of the finest in the genre.
