E. W. Hornung (1866-1921) was a prolific and versatile author, and published fiction and poetry during his lifetime. Those stories featuring Raffles and Manders continue to be his most popular and most enduring work, having spawned numerous pastiches as well as television and film adaptations. Arthur Conan Doyle placed the stories among the finest short fiction in the English language.
